Question #1:
I have a cat who is about 13 years old. He is a pure bread maine coon. Within the past few years he has developed a blood clot in his ear that, since it's been treated, has cauliflowered. He has also lost sight in one of his eyes. But, most recently he has begun making strange movements. If someone could help me by explaining what it actually is. He gives himself a bath like normal cats do at least 4 times a day. The strange movements is, what seems like a vicious itch on his back, then he starts shaking and falls over and i have to lay him flat and pet him gently to get him to stop. So far out of all the times he's done this he has fallen off the bed and off a computer desk. He doesn't salivate or foam at the mouth and he doesn't loose control of his bowels. That makes me think it's not a seizure. But of course I'm no expert. If someone could help it would be very appreciated.
Thank you all so much for such fast feedback.
Question #2:
and I'm the only one to blame. I just found out that her breed (Maine Coon) does not self-regulate when it comes to eating...wish someone had explained this to me earlier.
I got her last November when she weighed around 12 or 13 lbs.
Then in Feb I had to take her to the vet, and she weighed 14 pounds.
This morning, I weighed her on the same scale, and she wighed 16.8 lbs.
So she's gained about 3 pounds (increased 25% of body weight) in only 9 months. gak!
I got a boy kitten about 3 months ago, and the kitten eats high fat food. The older cat, a girl who's about 7 years old) will eat however much is available (this is the part I didn't realize.) And they don't get much exercise cause I live in a confined space, and they're both indoor cats.
I realize that she should eat less and exercise more, but the truth is, all I really can potentially change is the amount she eats. And, truthfully, I don't know how to make that happen on a daily basis while feeding the kitten appropriately.
If you have any helpful suggestions (not telling me anything I've already stated!), then please reply. I"m looking for Ideas.
Thank you.
I feel both the older cat and the kitten "Wellness CORE" dry food: about 1/4 cup, twice a day. And it's in a timed feeder: approx 6:30AM and approx 7PM. Then, mid-day I feed the kitten some Wellness brand canned food, and I've recently begun putting him into the bathroom with the canned food at mid-day feeding so that the big cat cannot get it. Perhaps this is a good strategy, but it's hard to tell if it's working, as I'm not the most patient persona in the world. (I suppose I'm looking for immediate results, and this is likely to take a while.)
But it was just this morning that I actually got to weigh the big cat, so it's very clear now. It was only a suspicion before because she looked bigger, she doesn't run around (she used to tear through the apt at night, even tho there wasn't much room. Now she doesn't do anything.)
above: I feed (not feel) ....
The cat is not a purebred Maine Coon, but a Maine Coon mix. Yes, she has a very large frame, but now she bulges out at the sides and cannot groom herself "down there" so it's a mess and she must hate it since cats are so fastidious. So not only does she not speed/run through the place, she also cannot groom herself adequately. This is making her life not very fun (again, my fault).
Even though dry kibble is so much more convenient, I plan to wean her off of dry food, or at least supplement the dry food with canned food and possibly a few chunks of muscle meat (chicken).
Thank you all for your helpful advice!!!!!!!
Seriously, 4 out of 5 of these answers were super helpful, and I appreciate them very much! I just don't know how to rate these, as I cannot pick just one as being best. Sorry I don't know how to work this system well enough if you're missing out on points or anything like that. Hopefully, just knowing that you've helped someone (who truly wants to do the right thing) will be good!! Thx again!
OK, 4 out of 6 of these answers were great.
I'll just pick one, so that somebody gets 10 points, but thank you to everyone!!

WTF Café Mocha Valencia?? Don't be a b*tch!!
I didn't know it was the same type of kitten. I'm not a cat expert.
And sometimes I ask the same questions b/c ppl don't answer the first one or the answer wasn't wat I was looking for.
If u don't like seein the same question a bunch of times don't answer them, simple as that.
Question #4:
My cat (Oliver, a young male Maine Coon - mix, I think...) has been acting strange lately. Whenever he comes into my room after going about doing his own thing around the house, he's very talkative and cuddly. Not that I mind the cuddly, but the talkiness is concerning. Even my older brother noticed he's very chatty. His meows are sometimes a rolling kind of sound, rather than just a simple "meow!" I'm aiming to become a cat expert, but cat language still manages to confuse me. I learned about body language but still. Deciphering what the meows mean is hard.
Can anyone help? It's not too important, I'm just curious as to why he's suddenly so talkative.
Question #5:
I have 5 cats, 3 siamese, 1 bengal and 1 maine coon.
My eldest female siamese keeps bullying the youngest siamese and the bengal..
We have had this problem before.. so we took her to the vet, the vet gave us this plug in air freshener type thing and it was supposed to calm them down.. it didnt work so we took her back to the vets cause it was getting out of hand, the vet gave us dome antidepressants for her.. they works for about 6 weeks.. then she came off them and started being a bully again sop we put her back on the tablets but they are not working this time..
She keeps chasing the bengal round the house then cornering her in the living room.. and she chases and physically attacks the youngest siamese to the point of her screaming :/
I just dont know what to do anymore... I've tried everything.. but she wont stop bullyin the little ones..
any advice?
Question #6:
5.)The Abyssinian
Be sure to add you personal favorite. Doesn't have to be the five listed!
Question #7:
my 4 year old long haired tortoise shelled maine coon tabby x pickles is a relatively normal cat, he ignores me when i call him, cries when i try to pick him up for cuddles, cries at 5pm for his wet food, gets into his litter box while i'm changing the litter, scratches on my expensive stuff. you know a normal disobedient cat that's cute beyond words and know it.the only problem if you dismiss his lack of loving me is that he eats clumps of his cat hair off the floor and little bits of fluff off of blankets and such. if i yell at him to stop he glares at me promptly gets up turns around so that he is no longer facing me and continues on as if i do not exist. which is fine , let him look stupid but then he gets sick and i have to clean it up . i've tried countless times to explain to him that its his own fault but this is only followed by more glaring, tail flicking and or crying. does any one elses cat eat "fluff"or have utterly ridiculous random acts of stupidity or is pickles just "special"
for the record i do not need any opinions on mine and pickles quote un quote relationship he likes his space unless he is invading mine which is fine with me....besides i have two other cats that love me....
Question #8:
My moggie (half maine coon) has recently developed little hard black scabs on his nose. I scratched one off very easily but the other ones are hard and unable to remove.
I've done my research and since he's a black/brown/white tabby I doubt it's skin cancer because of the sun. I have seen many answers about cat scabs but none address my problem. The scabs don't irritate him and once off there are no patches on the skin. He has no other problems. The scabs aren't flat but round. Is this natural? Should I be worried?
Question #9:

Question #11:
My family and I found a lost kitten who was not claimed nearly a year ago.
She is now almost 1 year old but still very small and kitten like.
She is brown / black tabby with medium-long shaggy coat, soft and glossy it seems to be water resistant. Her tail is abnormally large and fluffy as well as around her face and ears.
Her ears have black lynx tufts and her paws have long distinct furnishings she also has very long/big whiskers for her small size. quite a soft high meow
She is a very sweet natured cat who loves to play all day with anything she can find but she also loves to cuddle just like a kitten still. She is an indoors cat and doesn't seem to mind much and she loves water. She has a few dog like qualities, she comes when you call her and follows us around the house everywhere. incredibly loyal.
(she has put on 200g since she was nearly 4 months despite eating a lot of food, i read maine coons don't fully develop for up for 5 years)
I have attached some photos of her below. Your help would be appreciated

Question #12:
I adopted a cat when he was 10 weeks old. He was found in a neighborhood alone and starving. The woman who found him brought him to a local no kill organization who held him for a couple weeks to see if someone would claim him before adopting him out. When I got him he was just a little ball of fluff and I didn't think he would turn out to be anything but a normal house cat. He is now 3 years old and enormous. When I say he's big, I mean he's about the size of a Cocker Spaniel. I went to the CFA site and looked up their standards to show the breed, and my cat possess all of them. He has the tufted ears,The big slightly slanted eyes, the M mark on his forehead (he is a tabby) the large round paws, the long hair "tufty" tapered tail. His coat is shorter on the shoulders and long on his belly. His markings fit all the show quality requirements for their spacing/color/placement as well. He even has what looks like a mane around his neck. I have had every vet I have taken him to tell me he is a Maine Coon. He is so beautiful and well tempered, all bias aside I have had people try to buy him off of me for large amounts of money. I have a friend of mine who shows her Maine Coon who has also told me that he has all the characteristics. I am wondering if I can show him without papers or if because of the circumstances he was found in its just tough luck so to speak. It's not an issue either way, like I said when I adopted him I thought he was just your run of the mill normal house cat and papered or not he is a part of my family and is not for sale. I just thought it would be fun to show him off sometime. So if anyone knows if I can show him, or is there a way to get him papers without his bloodline, or if papers are even important when it comes to showing a cat. I don't know a lot about the process and most of what I know is about dog shows not cat so its kind of useless. Anyways, just any info would be appreciated.
FYI yes I know it would be extremely rare to just have stumbled across a Maine Coon, but there are a ton of breeders in the area and I live in an area that has been evacuated due to natural disasters on a regular basis. Which is around the time he was found, shortly after an evacuation for a hurricane.
Thank you in advance for your time :)
Question #13:
LOL anyone else out there want to find the writer of that stupid show and b!otch slap them for a bit because of the M on the forehead meaning Maine Coon tripe? I work in a shelter and can't count the number of people who suddenly became "experts" after watching that show. People please! the M on the forehead is just part of tabby coat pattern markings. It does not mean that every long haired cat with an M on their forehead is an "abandoned" $600+ purebred Maine Coon cat that a breeder "forgot" to register.
Question #14:
I think my stray kitten is a maine coon. But its siblings are short haired tabby kittens. heres a link to the picture Click Here
Question #15:
My kitty is a Maine Coon and has long fur. She coughs up a hairball every few days and I'm tired of cleaning up the large mess. Is there a way to dissolve them so she doesn't cough them up so often?
Question #16:
I have a 3 yr.old male Maine Coon cat (read...huge) who I've been having a problem with recently.
My cat has been going outside every day since he was a kitten, he freakin loves it out there. I work from home, so I let him in and out throughout the day whenever he pleases. He only stays in my yard when he goes out, typically only uses outside for his litter box (he has one inside for emergencies) and he usually sleeps inside during the night.
About 6 months ago I moved into a new house with an even bigger backyard - but there is a neighborhood cat that comes into my yard every day and starts a fight with my cat. It wasn't that big of a problem at first, my cat is freakin huge...and would lay the domination on this other cat.
Every now and then, however, my cat gets slightly injured. Nothing to send him to the vet. for yet...just some scratches that healed up (thank god) well, and a little piece of his ear got cut as well.
Now I can't send him outside without worrying. He loves to go outside, and if I keep him in for too long he starts crying like a little baby and waking up all my roommates. HELP!
I know that a lot of you will probably mention to only keep him inside and deal with it...but that is not an option. I have a cat so that he will hunt rodents around the property, and I can't stand the thought of making this animal spend his whole day inside a cooped up house - seems unethical to me.
Any ideas? My parents have a big cage that they use to catch raccoons without harming them. Maybe I should try and catch this cat and take him to the pound?
Oh, and I wasn't cursing up above. He is a mainecoon cat. Yahoo apparently doesn't trust me to use the latter-half of that word appropriately.
Question #17:
Hello there! I have an adorable five month old kitten who I love to pieces. This information is not important, I'm just curious more than anything. I found her advertised on Craigslist at the beginning of June. I did not see a picture of her before, but she was advertised as a purebred Himalayan. Clearly this was not the case, as you will see by the pictures I've attached. It didn't really matter too much though because I still thought she was adorable and still do!
Anyway she is definitely an unusual cat. To me she seems to look like a Ragdoll but doesn't have the personality. Her fur is very soft and silky, like a rabbit. Her eyes are blue and she has pointed markings. Her forehead markings kind of look like a Maine Coon to me, as do her furry ears. She also has hair toes, with long fur coming out from in between them.
She has a sweet temperament and is never violent. She is super friendly, almost to a fault, and loves strangers. She is also extremely playful. But, she doesn't like to be held, although she does love to be pet and purrs loudly sleeping next to me.
Any idea what breed she might be? No doubt she is not a purebred and is most likely a mix. But any thoughts on what she could be mixed with? These pictures are recent, taken yesterday.

Question #18:
I am planning a puppy. I won't be getting one for at least a year, i want everything to be perfect. I plan to crate train, and train the puppy myself. I plan to exercise for a few hours in the early morning, mental stimulation during the hottest parts of the day (I live in South Florida) and exercise at night, my husband as i go for long walks. Now i found out (having done my homework) that i'm going to inevitably have house breaking issues, puppies have accidents. It happens. That's not something I want to deal with. Annnndddd... Border Collie puppies have a long very very curious puppy stage, like terrible twos... I would need help dealing with that but my husband brought up the idea of adopting a Border Collie adult and skipping the housebreaking and terrible twos stage.
I know they will have some temperament issues as many were abandoned and abused (I had the sweetest pit bull i found on the streets, but she pooped blood...) I have two cats and the older cat (8 year old Maine Coon/Tabby Mix) may have trouble adjusting to a large dog unless he watches it grow (Milton was attacked by a large dog)
My little one would LOVE it though, I'm just scared the adult dog may squish her (because it wont grow knowing not to hurt her)
So i mean, yea i would make sure it's a pure bred Border Collie so i wouldnt have the breed temperaments problem...
But is a puppy easier than what they make it seem?
I guess i need an expert, thanks for all the answers!!
Question #19:
Hi Cat Section : Well, I've just got this extremely interesting and curious question, which will seem a bit silly. Okay so back in 2003 I got a rescue Maine Coon named Jillybean, she was all black, and then in 2007 I got my first dog, Claire, but we had to give Jilly away (2008) because she was mean too Claire. So, we got another dog in Summer of 09, and in Feb. 2010 we moved - but something strange happenings have been appearing ... we keep seeing this black cat in our yard that looks exactly like Jillybean. I don't have pictures or videos but I just saw the cat 2 times in our yard before. And this has happened in our old house too ...
We didn't move far away from our old house. And we never get replies from Jillybeans owners, they are like 80 or so ...
But could it really be Jillybean? Or is it just an ordinary cat I keep seeing?
Thanks,
Josy
Question #20:
I recently moved to a new apartment and my boyfriend and i brought our cats together. My cat is a maine coon and his was adopted. we brought his male to play with mine at my old apartment so they could get used to each other. after bringing them together, my cat has changed, he seems timid and scared. Dont get me wrong the two cats play together but sometimes it seems like the other cat is bullying my cat. My cat is not as outgoing and playful like he used to be and when he tries to be the other cat attacks him, and now my cat has recently started scooting his bottom across the carpet any ideas?
To add a few more details, the other cat has pulled a few of my cats whiskers out, im not sure what that means. My cat is a maine coon and is very friendly its like the other male is fighting for dominance, but my cat does not want to. Maine coons have certain characteristics and my cat showed those traits, but it seems like he is loosing them since being around another male. My cat has also had all of his shots and he has been an inside cat since he was born. The other cats has had all of his shots to, i'm just not sure where he wouldve have gotten worms, he scooted his bum across the floor leaving brown streaks as if he were trying to act out

The pet food recall scared us into making our own cat food at home. We did alot of research into cat nutrition requirements and went through alot of trial and error trying out new recipes for the cats - seeing what they liked and what they didn't. We ended up with quite a few super yummy recipes. Our friends begged us to share the recipes with them and we realized there were probably lots of other cat owners out there that would love to try these cat food recipes out on their cat too! So, 123 CatFood.com came into being. It really is as easy as 1-2-3.
