What is the most affectionate breed of cat?

I'm a 16 year old boy about to go to a different town/city to do study in TAFE (Australian thing for people who don't know) next year. I suffer from depression, and I believe cats can be very affectionate because I own a cat right now, but she's getting old and I don't think I should take her with me because I don't want to be near her when she passes away cause I may get really depressed. So what is the most affectionate breed of cat (besides Bombay (cause this is the breed of my current cat, and if i get one it'll remind me of her, and I dont want that))

Question #7:

Why does my sister's cat 'Kitty' hate everyone?

When my sister found 'Kitty' she was almost a year old. The vet thinks she escaped someone's house because she is a pure Bombay. For awhile she was like most cats aloof and less threatening but...Now she is the image of demonic. You walk near her even to get someone where and she hisses. She used to play a little even if she ignored the toy to claw your hand but, now she is untouchable, unreachable and unchangeable. The other day I sat some treats in front of her and she growled. Seriously what the fuck? Kitty is about three or four years old and only tolerates my sister and her cat companion Tommy.

My sister believes it's because her enlarged bladder but she got mean way before that.

What is this bitch's problem?

On a strange note: a year ago she befriended a Yorkie puppy 'little bear'' and they were best friends. The nice one Tommy hated the dog.

Question #10:

Help!My 1 year old cat keeps fighting with my 3 year old cat!:(?

Well a few months ago I bought a kitten. He's a bombay and is very aggressive. When i bought him he had a cold so i had to med-foster him.Since my family also has another cat nd a dog i had to keep him in my room for about 2 weeks. He's very sweet to me and the rest of my family even my 2 and 4 year old brother and sister. But whenever he's around my family's cat he attacks him.He won't even let me pet the other cat. They go scurrying around the house litterly fighting(not playing). The family cat is afraid to come in the house(he is an indoor*outdoor cat). Also he won't let the other cat go into my bedroom.I have a feeling that he's territorial because i kept him in my bedroom for so long. But i really had no choice. My dad threatins that I'll have to get rid of him if he keeps it up.I'm so scared that he'll have to go!I love him! Please help!

Question #11:

how do I get my kitten to be more vocal?

I have a new kitten and she is everything i ever wanted. I think she is part bombay but there is no way to be sure as she was adopted in the SPCA. She has a ton of characteristics of a bombay well almost all. My last cat was a bombay and she was the best cat ever except she would never stop meowing. This new kitten never meows except when she wants to be picked up or she makes that happy singing voice when she jumps on your lap. (Yes she is extremely happy in her new home). It is a little hard to reinforce her vocalization when she only does it during certain situations. I want her to be a little more vocal and I can't find anything on the web so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Question #12:

A good diet cat food?

My two year old Bombay cat is starting to look fat. Does anyone know a good diet cat food?

Question #13:

What's the matter with my two cat's relationship?

They were both only a couple weeks old when we first got them. Each were at the same place (cages were right on top of the other) and it was only a two day difference (the first one to enter was a bombay, the second was a brown tabby). Coming onto 10 years now both seemed to have a good, albeit sometimes competitive, relationship. The tabby always seemed to have more of the dominant role, but the bombay acted more like the nourishing mother. The bombay would usually always try to clean the tabby, and would act protective in any kind of danger as well. However, recently the bombay has been very hostile towards the tabby. She will hiss whenever the tabby does as much as enter the room at times and attack her without warning. This behavior isn't constant however, the bombay sometimes will calm down and act very friendly like she used to.

The hostility alone is very out of character for the bombay period too. She's generally VERY clingy to me over the rest of my family and would never do as much as hurt a fly. Even if she's playing she'll retract her claws as to not harm you on accident showing a level of self control that I've never seen before.

Some side details that may influence things is that we have discovered that the tabby has cancer within the last year. She's putting up one hell of a fight and is still holding fairly strong which I am grateful for. This has caused a rise in attention towards her for obvious reasons, but more by the rest of my family other than me. As much as I want to just cherish every moment left, I also realize that the bombay is extremely dependent on my attention and i try my hardest to balance out the sudden increase of attention given to the tabby. I would say this is the reason but the bombay only seeks attention from me, she rarely if at all will go crying to any of my other family members if she needs anything.

I just don't know what to do anymore with them. I always intervene whenever the two fight and try to divide attention between the two evenly after an outburst but it never seems to help. I also fear that if this keeps up, it'll cause some serious harm to the tabby seeing as she grows weaker and weaker as time goes on. I'm curious as to why this is happening and if there's anything I can do to stop this. Any advice will be appreciated!

Question #14:

What are these scabs on my cat's back?

My cat Darth Maul, who is an 11-year-old Bombay, has strange scabs on his back, which appeared about nine to 10 months ago. They started at the base of his tail, and then started multiplying up his back and are now almost to the base of his neck. Some of the scabs are red and look moist while others are more brown and dry.
The first time I noticed them, I thought that they might be bug bites, warts, or self-inflicted wounds from the times he scratches himself. But Darth, although he is an indoor cat, has a flea collar and has been treated with pest medicine.
I moved from Chicago to Cincinnati last June, and thought that maybe the scabs were from the stress he was under. But, they did appear about four months later.
The scabs, as I stated above, range from red and moist to brown and dry. They also range in size, and do appear in a particular pattern up his back (a straight line up the left side). When you part the fur to look at them, some of his fur comes out, which may be because he is shedding, but larger clumps of fur, along with the scab, come off when your scratch or pull gently at the fur. When touched or scratch, Darth shows no signs of being in discomfort or pain. He mostly enjoys when I scratch at them. Large flakes of skin have also been appearing in the lower layer of his fir, which are not the normal, smaller flakes of skin he has on top of his fir from dandruff.
I have not yet taken Darth to the vet because, being a minor, I have no job or car. I have, of course, asked my mom to take him to the vet, but she complains about cost.
If you know what this may be, it would be a great help, because I'm at the point now where I am starting to worry that it is some other, sever, skin condition that should have been treated months ago.
Again, thank you for any help you can give,
Emma Jeanne

Question #15:

Do Bombay cats always have to be black?

I inherited a cat that was said to be an 'asian breed' but does not have any paperwork. Having grown up with Burmese I originally assumed she was a Burmese that had been crossed with a domestic short hair as she is black with a green tinge to her yellow eyes and I have only recently discovered that there is an actual breed that fits her profile perfectly called the Bombay.

Now, as there is no paperwork I am wondering if the breeder has been experimenting and trying to come up with her own version of the Bombay because whilst my cat is black and fits the profile perfectly in every way, her brother is a mottled sable colour and her sister is champagne.

I am only interested because I'm concerned that if my cat gets ill the insurance company will refuse to pay out as she is insured as a domestic short hair, but I do not have any proof that she is a Bombay.
EDIT - thank you Cafe but you have made a couple of assumptions that have let down your otherwise helpful answer. Firstly there is always experimentation in all fields of life and it is perfectly reasonable to think that an ambitious breeder may have attempted this (the fact she claimed it was a breed and charged for the privilege whilst not providing any evidence to the original owner leans heavily to this theory).

Also, as for the insurance company, they would be relying on the judgement and character of the vet to provide accurate information. If a vet claimed they believed it to be a Bombay (which carries a higher monthly premium) then I would be stuck. It is precisely your kind of naivety when it comes to insurance matters that leaves so many people in a hole claiming "But I didn't know!"

Also, as stated, she matches the profile of the Bombay perfectly. So why would you think she would be Tonkinese - they are really quite different.

Question #16:

Will Bombay(India) ever change, improve and can we ever expect a a healthy good living.?

Well before i start off with my question i would like to mention that i intend no harm or disregard on anyone's opinion or belief. I simply want other people's thoughts on my question.
I am living in Bombay since the past 18 years, and frankly speaking i feel the situation simply sucks over here. The population gets to the utmost level of the mind thus resulting is utter frustration. The pollution once again is another agent for an unhealthy living scenario. The corruption out here, daym i bet every person living in Bombay knows what i am talking about. Every turn you take you either see a pile of garbage, broken down roads, or betal spit. I mean for me at every aspect i look at life out here, it pretty much sucks (please do not think me to be a miserable cat). So after explaining the obnoxious and dreadful situation i would like to know as to will they ever be change, (personally, i do not think so) and secondly a lot of people call this city AMAZING, or maximum city. I mean how can you use such unrelated expression for this city which has such poor standards of living.

Once again i do not wish any disrespect to anyone, peaceeeeeeeeeeeee.

Question #17:

What breed might this cat's father be - or just a domestic perhaps?

So, I have a completely black cat with a white locket and spot in stomach too. His mother is pure Norwegian forest cat, who was black&brown. Father is unknown, though. His sisters were all bicolour, white and black, but this one was only black.
He looks very much like Bombay... but the father could be just a normal black/white one, right?

Anyone have ideas what it COULD even be, because of those colorings I just mentioned?

Question #18:

Is The Bombay Cat A Good Cat For Me?

i really like the bombay cat breed.
But i want a Sweet,Friendly ,affectionate cat who wouldnt mind being held or sit on my lap.
Is the bombay Cat like that? and if no what are some other breeds that are like that.

Question #19:

Which cat will be better for me?

My flat is not too big. My working schedule is from 9 to 7 so it has to be a cat that can cope well with being alone for that amount of time and can live indoors all the time. I want his character to be as similar as possible to a dog: playful and caring, but at the same time not loud so that he/she doesn’t disturb the neighbours. As soon as I am back from work I can spend plenty of time with the cat so he/she will be really happy and well feeded.

I will go to a shelter to get the cat and I wanna go there with a brief idea of what I need to ask for. Is it better a male or a female? Long hair cat or short hair cat? Obviously I am not looking for a pure cat but... will you ask for any special breed? Siamese, European, Persian, Bombay, Chartreux?

Question #20:

Is it just me, or is there something (mentally)wrong with my cat?

We have 5 cats, the youngest one is a bombay cat named Charco. We found her about a year ago living under our back deck all alone. She was so small, she couldn't have been over 4 or 5 weeks old. I had been feeding her for several weeks and I finally got her to come in. She gets along great with my other cats but she hates my boyfriend and me! She won't let him touch her at all, and she only lets me touch her when I'm feeding her. She also won't let anyone that comes over get near her. It's been over a year, will she ever come around? I love all my cats but it's hard for me to be close to her. It's so frustrating, any time I try to pick her up she claws me up! And I hate seeing her so terrified all the time. I'm usually really good with animals and it bothers me so much that she hates me!

I guess I should also mention that she's the only cat I have that uses my furniture and walls as scratch posts! She has already messed up more of my stuff than the other 4 cats combined!
