Question: Wellness Core for cats, how much wet food to feed?

( Back )

Answer #1:

You want her to eat more canned, and less dry. Kittens can eat enormous quantities of food for their size, since they are actively growing. Feed her about 1/4 to 1/3 of the can at each feeding, more if it's gobbled up and the plate licked clean, less if she's leaving some or barely finishing it. Or you can split into three feedings, one morning, one at dinner, and one before bed.

Dry's been linked to so many feline disorders, like obesity, diabetes (yes, even the grainless diets have carbohydrates), urinary tract disorders, constipation, and kidney disease. Getting her used to eating mostly canned now will make it easier to switch back to raw in the future, and be better for her future health.

Congratulations for wanting to feed a healthy diet to your kitten!

Answer #2:

You have great name brands but there is no reason to feed nor should you feed her dry food. You can buy the 12 1/2 oz cans of wellness to save money and leave canned food down all day with 'fresh meals 2x a day. Dry food, even the best isn't good for cats and don't believe the crap they say about dry food being good for teeth. Brushing is good for teeth

The pet food recall scared us into making our own cat food at home. We did alot of research into cat nutrition requirements and went through alot of trial and error trying out new recipes for the cats - seeing what they liked and what they didn't. We ended up with quite a few super yummy recipes. Our friends begged us to share the recipes with them and we realized there were probably lots of other cat owners out there that would love to try these cat food recipes out on their cat too! So, 123 CatFood.com came into being. It really is as easy as 1-2-3.
