NEW YORK CITY - "Max" was New York City's top cat-name, the Health Department announced. The name was engraved on 1,228 of the 101,274 cat licenses the department issued last year. Sam and Lady took second and third places, followed by Bear and Smokey, leaving the top-five ranking unchanged. Persian outnumbered any other variety, followed by Maine Coon. Siamese and Exotic captured third and fourth place, rising from spots four and five. Abyssinian were the fifth most popular breed, down from third place.
